A photo blog from Reykjavik-based photographer Valdis Thor. Here I tell stories about my life, month by month. I turn my camera to the little things that interest me and give a view of what I'm working on at the moment.

April - The month spent away from home / Riga
After leaving Roskilde I continued with my travels and got on a plane to Riga.
It was my third time in Latvia, second time in Riga so I knew the city a little bit. As I found out it is also very small and reminds me of Reykjavik in many ways. I was lucky knowing a good group of Latvians who helped me out and other wonderful and like minded people I met a long the way.
And I started seeing in color again. Weird, grainy, damp colors.
I also started feeding pigeons outside my window.
Without realizing that the seagulls will follow.
Well, there were seagulls everywhere anyways...
Maybe because it's close to the Daugava river and the Central market.
I also found some of the opposites in the city fun. I've never met so many tough old women who walk so fast you might think someone was chasing after them. Then the young women and their heels. I could never walk on heels in that city. The streets are so uneven and old I would probably kill myself trying.
But there was more to Riga then Pigeons and old Birds. I went on a picnic with a few friends and project mates of Borderlines.
We went to the beach town of Jurmala and had coffee and Black Balsam at Andrejs (above) parents place. That's where I met their very fat cat.
The beach was great even though the weather was colder then expected. Edgars and Liana enjoyed it. And check out the product placement. I should get some money for that. #Here's to hoping
And finally a few shots of Riga.

April - The month spent away from home / Roskilde
I spent April traveling. First I went to visit my father and stepmother to Roskilde, Denmark. She's Danish and they have been living there since 2003. I spent Easter weekend with them and it was wonderful. We went to the A. Gursky photography exhibition in Louisiana art museum and saw the most expensive photograph ever. It was impressive to say the least.
I have always found Denmark to be a big part of me. I look at my step family there as if they were my blood relatives. I don't know life without them. Roskilde is also an interesting town, quiet but still a lot of young families that live there. My first photographs are from Roskilde.
My father Thor Jonsson and second mother Jytte Fogtman at the Louisiana museum.
Homeless man selling Hus Forbi, a magazine about homeless people and made for them to sell. It gives them some extra cash and helps raise awareness.

March - The Frizztical Month
March is a very difficult month. We get fooled so many times that spring is here but the next day it's snowing again. We even forget that no one should be optimistic about Icelandic weather until after Easter.
I got exited early March when walking to work one morning. I came across a starfish, alone on the sidewalk. Big disappointment, it was dead. Poor starfish...
I think Icelanders need their own word to describe the weather. You know, like Tropical is warm and nice and everything. I think it should be Frizztical. ''Iceland is a very frizztical place. ''
Well, we're not doing so bad. We have design March. It's always fun to celebrate the good old fashion craft of creation.
And the parties of course..
At the end of the month nothing beats seeing the flowers brake their way through the ground.

January 2012 - The birthday month
I have never been a fan of January. It's dark and the weather gets unpredictable. I think the mood of our nation follows the weather. It's also my birthday, I just turned twenty five so no excuses anymore.
Looking through my images of January I realized what a busy month it had been. And a fun one!
For instance this photo of Siggi Maggi Finns a.k.a. Siggi frændi
No man wants to find a women pointing a camera through his crotch.
I'm always catching myself photographing my apartment. For instance my cd & book shelf's. I love the colors and details.

Silla's drink & Robbi's feet
I also went to the Gogoyoko wireless concert at Kex hostel. The lovely Sóley (above) was playing. She's such a wonderful and talented person.
So talented that my view the whole concert witch was this
Although the month has been dark there is a settle beauty behind it.
For instance the tree that shields my balcony and bedroom window and when the sun finally brakes through after a stormy week.
Until next month
